Light a Candle
Walter Henrichsen, Jr was born in 1934 in Berkeley, California as the second of Dorothy and Walter Henrichsen, Sr’s four children. At the age of 19, he met the Lord, and after completing his undergraduate degree at Central College in Iowa, he obtained his Master’s of Divinity at Western Theological Seminary and was ordained in the Reformed Church of America. Upon completing seminary, Walt pursued ministry opportunities through the Billy Graham Crusade and was directed to the follow-up and discipleship work undertaken at that time by The Navigators. He eventually trained with The Navigators in Southern California, where he concurrently taught school. In the summer of 1960, he was working for The Navigator’s at Maranatha Bible Camp in Nebraska where he met Leette Dillon, who was working with the girls. After two summers serving together, he proposed to her long-distance over the phone, and they went on their first date after they became engaged. Unbeknownst to the other, both of them had claimed Isaiah 41:20 as a promise from the Lord for their relationship and unspoken love: That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it. They were married in June of 1962 at Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs. Upon his return from New Zealand in 1977, Walt agreed to the request of a group of business and professional men that he leave The Navigators and minister full-time to them – work that he has been doing ever since. In addition to writing several books and devotionals, Walt primarily works to help men integrate their walk with Christ into their daily lives and vocations.
